frequently asked questions

Why do you stuff your dog beds with wool?

Wool is one of nature's most technically advanced fibers, with numerous properties that make it excellent stuffing for dog beds. Chief among those is its ability to regulate temperate, which helps to keep your dog cool in summer and warm in winter.

It is naturally odor resistant and will stay fresh longer than other bed stuffing materials like foam and polyester. Wool is also hypoallergenic and resistant to mold, dust mites, and mildew.

What kind of wool do you use?

We use only 100% all natural and minimally-processed wool. The wool is washed with a mild, biodegradable soap that is compliant with strict GOTS standards.

After the wash is completed, the wool then slowly passes through tubs of increasingly clean water until all of the dirt and debris has been removed.

Is this dog bed non-toxic?

Yes! Not only is the wool filling 100% all natural, but the fabric and materials are certified non-toxic by GOTS and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 testing.

How do I care for the wool?

Just like a nice wool sweater, our wool-filled inserts should not go in the washer or dryer. Instead, spot clean any soiled areas with a natural soap or Woolite. Lather a small amount of soap into the affected area for about 20 seconds, then rinse with clean water.

Gently squeeze out excess water, run more clean water through if necessary, and lay the insert in the sun (indoors is fine) to dry.

How long will the wool last?

With proper care, the wool inside our inserts will last a lifetime. Simply follow our care instructions to ensure the longevity of your wool.

If your wool insert ever feels a bit flat, you can remove the wool from inside the encasement and pull it apart to re-fluff the insert.

What farming standards are used on the sheep farms?

We only work with farms that adhere to strict growing standards. Sheep are rotated amongst a number of pastures to allow vegetation to recover from grazing and avoid overgrazing.

No herbicides or pesticides are used in the fields where sheep will be grazing. The farms we work with also encourage alternative medical care to keep the sheep healthy with the fewest chemicals possible.

Is shearing sheep for their wool inhumane?

No, sheep shearing is actually a necessity. Certain breeds of sheep must be sheared because they were selectively bred thousands of years ago to produce more wool than they can naturally shed. This can lead to overheating and health issues if not removed properly.

There can be bad actors in any industry, but we only work with farms that adhere to humane processes carried out by skilled shearing professionals. Wool from the sheep's bottom and belly are separated and sold to other customers.

cleaning your wool insert

  1. step one

Spot clean by hand with woolite, eucalan or a similar gentle detergent
  2. step two

Lather for about 20 seconds, then rinse the area until the water runs clear
  3. step three

Gently squeeze out the excess water and lay the insert in the sun to dry
  1. refresh your wool

Lay the wool-filled encasement in the sun for 2-3 hours every month or so to freshen and cleanse the wool fibers.
  2. no washer or dryer!

The agitation during the wash, and the heat from the dryer, will ruin the structure of the wool fibers and its natural lanolin.
